If there were any doubt about the comeback of migratory waterfowl, Storm Lake has seen proof this week that the birds have returned to their traditional flyway.
Storm Lake has seen the biggest seasonal arrival of Canada geese and several species of ducks in modern memory. One lake-watcher stopped counting at over 2,000 birds on the lake alone. Most of the birds were divided into two groups, one off Lakeshore Drive near the Flindt intersection, and one spread over an estimated 60 acres of the lake stretching out from the Shoreway road area near Methodist Manor. The flocks stopped traffic and attracted onlookers and photographers. / Dana Larsen
