The Storm Lake High boys track and field team showed its strength here Tuesday night at the Lakes Conference Indoor meet, setting conference records in three events and taking firsts in four.
Senior Nick Sorbe set a new conference mark in the 800 meter run, taking first place in 2 minutes, 2.40 seconds.
In addition, the Tornadoes' 4x400 relay of Sorbe, Logan Masters, Alex Kwikkel and Mike Keller took first in a new Lakes Conference indoor record time of 3:34.09.
The other conference record was set by Keller in the long jump. The senior took first with a record leap of 21 feet, 4.5 inches.
Masters added a second-place in the 55 meter hurdles in 8.58 seconds while Alex Spielman was fourth in that event in 8.61 seconds.
Also, Lamthong Sounnarath was second in the 55 meter dash in 6.73 seconds.
The other first place for the Tornadoes was in the 4x200 relay. In that event, the team of Sorbe, Derrick Randall, Colt Cook and Keller was first in 1:36.63.
Keller added a second in the 200 meter dash in 23.99 seconds while Alex Kwikkel was fifth in 24.65 seconds and Lance Eddie sixth in 24.87 seconds.
In the 1600 meter run, Kevin Wulfekuhler was sixth in 5:07.96 while Brett Miller was seventh in 5:08.05.
In the long jump, Tyson Brandt was fourth with a leap of 18 feet, 4 inches and Colt Cook sixth 17 inches, 5.75 inches.
