Farmer's market returns to its roots for 2004

Thursday, March 25, 2004

The Storm Lake Farmers Market will return to the downtown this season, starting June 12, and will expand to coincide with the Taste of Storm Lake block parties.

Markets will be held from 8 a.m.-noon each Saturday, and 4-6 on Thursday evenings, located at Lake Avenue and West 6th Street between Varenhorsts and the former JC Penneys. The half block will be or barricaded off for safety and vendors will sell their fresh produce and more in the street. Vendor fees will be reduced also.

The Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce will assist with the market this year. Information is available from Marilyn Monson at 732-3780 and JoAnn Olsen, 732-1285.

Storm Lake area gardeners are urged to take part to make the revamped Farmers Market a fun and successful experience for the community, and also to provide an affordable source for the freshest nutritious foods and homemade items for area people.

Information on certification training for WIC and SFMN Programs has just been released, and can help Storm Lake food providers serve the needy populations of the area.

A training session will be held on Thursday, April 8, at 4-6 p.m. at Buena Vista University, 610 4th Street, Information Technology Center. For reservations call 515-281-5321. There are other dates and locations available available from Olson or the chamber.
