The Storm Lake High School Concert Band, nearly 190 voices strong, will present their annual formal concert event Friday, March 26, starting at 7:30 p.m. in Schaller Chapel on the campus of Buena Vista University. Director Jeff Tollefson said that this is the seventh year for the concerts, and this year's performance is one of the most demanding ever taken on by the prep performers. The public is invited to enjoy the likes of "Ode to Music," a piece commissioned by Wartburg College for the anniversary of Iowa All State music programs. "Sleep," by Eric Whitacker, a 20th century piece, is coupled with spirituals, "Basque Gloria," an all state piece from this year, "All That Has Life and Breath," and "Hymn for Our Time," a rousing patriotic piece that the students will dedicate to all area veterans as a finale. A special addition to the show will be "The Four Sopranos" - Storm Lake's own version of the Three Tenors. Students Jenny Lickteig, Joni Seivers, Heidi Germann and Liz Tjaden, an integral part of the concert band since their freshmen year, will be featured with a men's chorus background. "We're opening big and ending big," said Tollefson. "We're excited, this should be a great show and we're hoping for a good crowd."
