Beautifying 'The City Beautiful'
TO THE EDITOR:
"Storm Lake...the City Beautiful"... "Storm Lake.......Proud of It." These slogans, both old and new, make a statement about the tradition and pride citizens of this great community hold dear. Making a commitment to uphold the traditions of our community is not always easy and needs constant vigilance. As another phrase goes, "We only get one chance to make a first impression."
With the warm Springtime weather approaching, we have another chance to make good on a resolution to "make that good first impression."
As a spokesperson for the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce, I offer this letter to the community to encourage an effort to make our "city beautiful" to those that live here and those that can carry our message back to the communities where they live. One of the priorities of the Chamber this year is to aggressively encourage all property owners, both business and residential, to objectively look at the impression their properties make to those that pass by. What message does it send to those living here or visiting Storm Lake?
We are well on our way to making great changes to the region with the Destination Park project. How can you help in this effort? How can you directly benefit? Perhaps you could paint, plant trees and flowers, pick up the trash, scrub off what winter has deposited (nothing like a good power washing to brighten things up!) Wouldn't you want to live and work in a place that glows with pride?
We are blessed to have many homes, and not always the big, expensive ones, and businesses that believe in this tradition of Storm Lake. Take a look! What a great impression they make to so many. How about taking a second look at why we are "Storm Lake....the City Beautiful."
