Eclectic performer returns to Fair

Tuesday, February 24, 2004

It's hard not to have a good time with Mr. Nick around.

Nick Dattilo (he prefers simply "Mr. Nick"), has become a standard at the Buena Vista County Fair over the last couple of years, and says he will be back for the 2004 version July 22-25.

His colorful traveling stage is hard to miss, as is the tiny red stunt panel truck he drives around the grounds.

Nick is both a clown and a genuine musician. From time to time, he appears in concert with his pop band Nick and the Starlites, made up of wife Kim and daughters Danielle and Gina.

At other time, he takes the form of the comical singing bear Be-Bop, and Nick has also perfected singing celebrity impersonation shows complete with costumes, from Elton John to Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison to familiar country-western stars.

He spends most of his time and considerable energy, however, with Nick's Kid's Show, which will play several times a day throughout the fair.

The shows are filled with fun, and also intend to introduce children to the joys of music. Usually, several youngsters and sometimes a parent or two get to sit in with him on stage - with some special versions of rock music instruments.

For the Kenosha, Wisconsin trouper, this has been his life's work for more than 20 years, at countless state and county fairs and festivals, and he wouldn't have it any other way.
