BV Raceway gearing up for a new season

Tuesday, February 24, 2004

With the start of the 2004 racing season only two months away, Lee and Becky Meyer are gearing up as "Checkered Flag Motorsports," the promoters at the Buena Vista County Raceway.

"We are really looking forward to the season getting underway," said Lee. "Becky and I are excited about this new venture and we are planning to do more in 2004."

The season will actually get kicked off with a "Test and Tune" date on Sunday, April 25th. "This is always a great way to start the season, say the Meyers. "It will give our race teams a chance to go out and just practice, to break in any new equipment, and to see if the changes they have made are the right ones to use in competition. As in the past our rain date will be the following Thursday night if needed."

For the employees, and new staff, it will give them an opportunity to also come up to speed. "It will give us a chance to get all of the driver information to us, and for us to get it processed before the first point night of the season," explains Becky. "You know, we have right at 50 employees that help make weekly races happen. Lee and I feel that if we have a 'test and tune' day it will help us be more organized for that opening night.

"Again this year Toby Kruse will be running the program from the flag stand, and Denny Grabenbauer will be behind the Mic entertaining the crowd as our track announcer," she said.

A new class will be added in 2004, the BVR "360 B Mods". "This is an entry level Modified class that we feel will attract more race teams to our raceway. But with this new addition, this definitely puts the pressure on our shoulders to keep our weekly program moving. We want to give as much to the fans as possible. Wednesday night is a tough night because of work and school. With the addition of the BVR 360 B Mods, our staff will need to keep things rolling along every night," says Meyer.

In addition to the new BVR 360 B Mod division, the BVR Bombers, IMCA Hobby Stocks, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Modifieds will continue to compete this season.

The season is expected to get underway with the "FrostBuster," the first points race of the year, on April 28th. The season runs through a "Fall Special" on Sunday, September 5th.
