Genesis Development has announced that Monica Howard will be assuming the position of marketing representative at the Storm Lake site.
Howard will be working with both the work services and employment services departments.
She will assist work services by focusing her efforts on developing facility-based work opportunities for those served by Genesis who are employed at the Genesis work center.
In the employment services area she will be assisting individuals in finding and maintaining competitive employment in the community. She will also be instrumental in helping students transition from high school into their first jobs.
Employment services is a job placement service that specializes in matching people with disabilities with employment opportunities in the community.
The objective of the program is to help the individual identify vocational interests, strengths and barriers; learn job-seeking skills; develop a support network; and find and keep a job in their community. Once a match is found, the new employee has the option of working with a job coach who supports him or her in learning duties, job skills, work routine, and work environment enabling them to become successful at their chosen work site.
The employment specialist remains on the job with the new employee until he or she can perform the job independently.
Howard has a degree in public relations from Northwest Missouri State University and was previously employed by Battelle Memorial Institute, Centers for Public Health Research and Evaluation in St. Louis where she was responsible for locating and verifying current contact information for potential health research study participants.
