Funeral Arrangements

LaVerne Feltner (known to most as Curly) age 88 of Carroll, died at his home on January 10, 2004 unexpectedly. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll with Father Robert Schott as Celebrant. Lectors will be Marty Feltner and Dawn Sexton and Gift Bearers will be Curly's children. Friends may call at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday where there will be a Rosary at 3 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 6:45 p.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with Military Honors by the Maurice Dunn Post of the American Legion of Carroll.

LaVerne had worked at various jobs over the years including: Berholtz Lockers as a meat cutter, Deluxe Cleaners, F.W. Means Company and he and his wife had managed the Carroll Courts Motel for 14 years. He was born on November 29, 1915 at Audubon, and was married to Evelyn Louise Kohorst on February 13, 1943 at Tacoma, Washington. He was the son of John and Clupia Schwartz Feltner. Curly was a veteran of WWII having served with the Army. He was member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and as a young boy he attended Audubon Schools. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, baking, and having coffee with his buddies at the Hy-Vee store.

Surviving are two sons: Larry Feltner and his wife Dianne of Carroll, Donald Feltner and his wife Louisa of Storm Lake, and a daughter Patricia Hill of New River, Arizona. Seven Grandchildren and four Great-Grandchildren, three sisters: Mary Karlin of Mapleton, Rowena Bauman of Lincoln, Nebraska and Delores Feltner of Audubon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife in 1996; a son Gerald; a brother Delbert Feltner; a sister Opal Grace Sheets; a granddaughter Mary Beth Feltner.


Funeral services for Colin N. Blomgren were held Monday, January 12, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Laurens, with Reverend Tammy Anderson and Reverend James Little officiating. Burial was in the Poland Township Cemetery.

Colin Blomgren, age 60, died on January 8, at Storm Lake. Colin Nels Blomgren was born on January 5, 1944, at Storm Lake. He was the son of Irvin and Mildred (Anderson) Blomgren. Colin was educated in Albert City schools, graduating from high school in 1963. He worked at different manufacturing plants in Laurens. Colin married Beth (Rudy) Pohl on June 11, 1983, at Albert City. The couple has made their home in rural Albert City ever since then. In the late 1980's Colin was forced to retire due to failing health.

Colin was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He was an avid fishermen, hunted when he was able and loved to take care of his animals.

Survivors include his wife, Beth (Rudy) of Albert City; son, Patrick (Mindy) Blomgren of Albert City; daughter, Dawn (Mark) Pistulka of Waconia, MN; grandchildren, Christina, Chelsea, Madison, Blake and Payton; sister, Teresa (Bill) Gebauer of Albert City and aunt, Jean Anderson of Albert City.

Colin was preceded in death by his parents, son, Kelly, grandparents, Nels and Alvina Anderson and uncles, Allie and Holly Anderson.
