Kindergarten holiday cookbook yields heaping helping of smiles

It has been a Christmas tradition for many years for the kindergarten students at Aurelia to write their own cookbooks.

The teachers over the years have taken time to sit with each student, ask him or her a favorite recipe and write it down in their own terms.

Current teacher Tanya Wilkinson commented that sometimes she has to "pull" out everything from the students that don't have a real concept of cooking and sometimes the students go on and on - all on their own.

The recipes are bound together in a book and each student takes a wrapped book home for the parents to open at Christmas.

The books are keepsakes often enjoyed for many years.

Here are the recipes that are included in this year's books. Perhaps you may wish to try some during your own holiday cooking...

Ravioli by Alexia Gerdes

1 Can Opener

1 Microwave

1 Bowl

1 Can Ravioli

Get out the can of Ravioli from the cupboard. Open the can of Ravioli and dump it in the bowl that doesn't have anything on it and can break. Then put it in the microwave for five minutes. When it is done get two bowls and two spoons and pour it in the bowls and eat.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 Bag Chocolate Chips

1 Bag of Sugar

2 Bags of Flour

3 Eggs

First dump all the bags of stuff in the big round bowl that is green. Stir it with the mixer. Then make round balls with our hands before we put them on the flat sheet. Make the balls big for big cookies. Put them in the oven and have the oven really really hot, seven degrees. Bake these for ten minutes and then check with a toothpick. If they are done we cool them off on the oven before we eat them.

Pizza

1 Frozen Pizza

First you put the cheese stuff in it and then you put the pepperoni on it. When you do that you put it in the oven. The oven is really hot. The oven is two degrees and my baby sister can't be by the oven it is so hot. Keep the pizza in the oven five minutes. Cut the pizza in seven pieces to eat.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

7 Chocolate Chips

2 Packages Cookie Dough

5 Bags Chocolate Chips

Get a big white bowl out. Put the dough in the bowl.

Put the seven chocolate chips in and then add the five bags of chocolate chips. Stir it with a big wood spoon. Put them in the oven for 40 minutes until the cookies bake. We eat them two at time.

Angel Cake

5 Cups Flour

1 Bag Sugar

2 Eggs

Get the big round whitish grayish bowl the cupboard. Put the eggs in and stir. Then put the sugar in and put the flour in. Keep stirring some more. After it is all stirred up put it in a pan. Put it in the refrigerator before you put it in to bake. Get it out of the refrigerator and bake it in the oven for three hours with the oven really hot, no a little bit hot, 10 degrees.

Macaroni

1 Box Macaroni and Cheese

Go to the store and get the box of macaroni and cheese. Get the big pan out and put it on the stove. Let mom turn the stove on. Dump all the box in with the cheese too. You have to put half a cup of water in the pan. Stir all this after the cheese is in. Stir for half an hour and then it is done. You have to wait awhile for it to cool to eat.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 Tube of Cookie Dough

Go to the store and get the cookie dough. It is by the milk at Fareway. When you get home with it you open the tube and cut pieces off. Put the pieces on Mom's pan. Put it in the oven and when it is all done cooking you eat them. It is in the oven for 12 minutes and you have the oven five degrees. You share these cookies with brother and mom.

Apple Crisp

4 Apples

1 Cup Flour

1 Cup Sugar

1 Stick Butter

1 1/2 Cups Cinnamon

First we shred the apples. Then we make the crumbs. Put flour and sugar and butter and then mom stirs it around and then we put the apples in and then we put it in to bake. Bake this for 30 minutes and the oven is 10 degrees. We take a clear pan to put it in so we can see if it is burnt. Sometimes I take it to Grandma Doris' to share.

Brownies

3 Cups Flour

4 Cups Sugar

1 Spoon Baking Soda

1 Stick Butter

2 Eggs

2 Cups Chocolate Powder

Dump it all together in mom's big glass bowl. Stir it with a plastic spoon. Put it in the metal pan to bake. Bake it in the oven for 1/2 hour. The oven is ten degrees and that is really hot. Put them on the cookie sheet after you get them out of the oven. You get to eat them when they cool off. They are really good.

Fruit Loops Cereal

1 Box Fruit Loops

1 Cup Milk

2 Scoops Sugar

Get the green bowl out of the sink. Pour the Fruit Loops in the bowl. Now pour the milk on the cereal that is in the green bowl. Put the sugar on top of all that. Eat this bowl of cereal in front of the TV while I watch cartoons. Don't share this with anyone.

Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 Cups Flour

1 Cup Brown Sugar

4 Cups Chocolate Chips

2 Eggs

Put it all in a big pan bowl. Break the eggs first. Stir it up with a big wooden spoon. Use cookie scooper to scoop medium round balls. Put these on a very big cookie sheet that has sides. Bake in the oven with the oven set at 50 degrees. Bake these cookies for 15 minutes and then eat them after we let them cool a little. I share them with my family.

Pancakes

2 Eggs

1 Cup Milk

1/2 Cup Flour

Get out the silver big bowl and put the flour in first. Then put in the milk and eggs. Put this on the stove. Mix it up with a wooden spoon before you put it on the stove. Pour this into a pan. And then you have to turn the pancake. Then get the syrup and butter and eat the pancake. You make two pancakes at a time. I eat them both and don't share. Dad doesn't want them so I eat them all. We do this on Saturday.

Cinnamon Cookies

1 Tub Dough

1 Tsp Cinnamon

1 Inch Butter

Open the tube of dough and roll out the dough. Put the cinnamon on this. Melt the butter an mix it with the cinnamon. Cut it into cookies. Put it in the oven for ten minutes. Have the oven at 300 degrees. Eat them after you let them cool.

Homemade Pizza

1 Sauce

1 Bag Cheese

1 Frozen Dough

6 Pepperoni

Open the dough and put the sauce on it. Roll this up put the cheese on this. Now put some pepperoni on it. Then it is done. Now we bake it for longer than a regular pizza, maybe an hour. The oven is really hot, I think 50 degrees. Eat it now.

Macaroni and Cheese

1 Box of Macaroni

4 Cups of Cheese

(the Cheese that came in the Cheese Boxes for school)

2 Cups Milk

1 Whole Stick of Butter

Put all this in a pan and put the pan on the stove. Turn the stove a little bit on. Stir this after it cooks a little bit. When it is ready to eat put in tin bowl, the one that goes "ting" a little bit. Eat it all.

Brown Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 Milk

Put all this in a bowl and go around. Scoop them on pan. Put them in the oven at 5. Bake for 18 minutes. Then me eat the cookies when they are hot.

Pizza

1 Frozen Pepperoni and Cheese Pizza

1 Oven

10 Cups Cheese

Go to the freezer downstairs. Bring it upstairs to eat. Open it and put it in the oven and let it sit in there for awhile. Take it out of the oven and let it cool because it is too hot to put in our mouth. Cut it in 10 or so pieces and then eat it. Sprinkle the cheese with our hands on the pizza before you eat it.

Strawberry Cupcakes

1 Candle

1 Box Cupcakes

1 Can Frosting

Mom can make these really fast. Dump the box in the big blue bowl. Mix it up and stir it with big wood spoon. Put everything in the cupcake bowl. Bake in the oven for five minutes. The oven is really really hot, it's 500 degrees. When they are done you take them out and eat them.
