Updates from the Storm Lake Police Department and the Buena Vista County Sheriff's Office.


On Nov. 3, sometime after 10 p.m., a hit and run accident occurred at 1014 N. Erie Street. A 1991 Cadillac, owned by Adeline Sanchez, 1014 N. Erie Street, Storm Lake, was parked in front of her residence when it was struck by an unknown vehicle which left the scene. Damage to the Sanchez vehicle was estimated at $950.

An accident happened at 8:48 a.m. Monday 75 feet east of Lake Avenue and East 5th Street. A 1999 Dodge truck, owned by Consumer Supply Corp, 1509 East Richland Street, Storm Lake, and driven by Jon Bauer, 23, 206 Scott Street, Storm Lake, was traveling west on East 5th Street when a 1993 Buick, driven by Glenn Jones, 81, 904 East Milwaukee Avenue, Storm Lake, was parked and then attempted to merge into the flow of traffic and the vehicles collided. Jones was charged with Unsafe Start of Stopped Vehicle. Damage was estimated at $900 to the Consumer Supply truck and $500 to the Jones vehicle.

Shortly before 7 a.m. Monday, an accident happened 100 feet south and 100 feet west of Erie Street and East 6th Street. A 2001 Dodge Ram, owned by R&B Enterprises, Spirit Lake, and driven by Ronald Harris, 43, 1005 East Milwaukee, Storm Lake, was traveling in the city hall parking lot when Harris became distracted. The vehicle hit a light pole owned by MidAmerican Energy, Storm Lake. Damage was estimated at $4,000 to the R&B Enterprises vehicle and none to the pole.

An accident occurred at 7:48 a.m. on Monday at the intersection of Richland Street and Flindt Drive. A 1989 Pontiac, driven by Kraig Bolte, 18, Laurens, was eastbound stopped for a flashing red light when a 2000 International, driven by Ronald Loucks, 64, Quimby, while making a right turn on a flashing yellow signal, went too wide and struck the Bolte vehicle. Loucks was charged with Unsafe Turn. Damage was estimated at $3,000 to the Bolte vehicle and $4,000 to the Loucks vehicle.

At 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, an accident was reported that occurred on Friday at 7:45 p.m. in the 400 block of East Lakeshore Drive. A 1991 Buick, driven by Jessica Steuk, 16, 302 West 4th Street, Storm Lake, was backing from a parking space onto the roadway. A pedestrian, Heather Bogue, 20, Rembrandt, was standing near the Steuk vehicle. Unaware anyone was near the vehicle, Steuk began to turn and unknowingly struck Bogue. The next day, Bogue reported receiving minor injuries. There was no damage to the Steuk vehicle.

A hit and run accident happened on Sunday in the Wal-Mart parking lot, 1280 Lake Avenue. A 1993 Chevy, owned by Rhonda Hyde, Albert City, was parked in the parking lot when it was struck by an unknown vehicle which left the scene. Damage to the Hyde veicle was estimated at $800.


On Oct. 31, Charlie Nelson of Rasmussen's Ford, 1620 Lake Avenue, Storm Lake, reported a vehicle parked in the lot had four tires and rims stolen off of it and also had damage to the passenger side windows, the hood, the left side fender and the right rear pillar. Value of the stolen tires was estimated at $900.

On Nov. 3, Chris Phelps of Rasmussen's Ford, 1620 Lake Avenue, Storm Lake, reported the theft of an extension ladder from the back of the shop area sometime between Sept. 1 and Oct. 26. Value of the ladder was estimated at $250.


On Oct. 29, Cheryl Freeman, 601 West 4th Street, Storm Lake, reported damage to a swing set at her residence that had been drug across the street. Damage was estimated at $150.
