Donate-A-Phone program aids domestic violence victims

Thursday, November 9, 2000

This holiday season, Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative is answering the call of domestic violence victims in Northwest Iowa. This cooperative is teaming up with Midwest Wireless to bring the Donate-A-Phone program to families in need around the area.

The Donate-A-Phone program is designed to collect wireless phones for domestic violence victims.

The phones are used in the CALL to PROTECT program. The CALL to PROTECT refurbishes the donated phones and provides them to domestic violence prevention agencies. The agencies then loan the phones out to their clients for use in emergency situations. Many CALL to PROTECT phones are currently being used throughout Midwest Wireless' service area.

If you have a cellular phone that you are no longer using, drop it off or send it to ILEC's Estherville office at 1724 Central Avenue, P.O. Box 77, Estherville, Iowa 51334-0077. Phones will be collected through the end of the year.
