Clay Fairgrounds event center to debut

Tuesday, November 11, 2003

The public will get an opportunity for its first look at the completed Clay County Regional Events Center on Saturday, Nov. 15 with a full day of activities, beginning with a ribbon cutting and kick-off ceremony near the main entry to the events center at 10 a.m., and culminating in a free concert by New Odyssey in the evening.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, the public will be invited to an open house, which will include tours of the new facility. The new regional events center features a 24,000 square foot arena which includes seating for approximately 2,600, and a 7,500 square foot ball-room that can hold 1,000 for a meeting or event.

According to Bill Orrison, chairman of the Advisory Committee, "The Clay County Regional Event Center is the result of a spirit of cooperation with the Clay County Fair Board, the Spencer City Council, and the Clay County government. This joint effort of these organizations will help benefit all citizens of northwestern Iowa."

The day-long celebration will conclude with the Saturday evening show, billed as friendly, family, interactive entertainment by Chicago-based trio New Odyssey.

Following the grand opening activities, the Clay County Regional Event Center will begin showcasing some of the various activities it will be hosting. On Tuesday, Nov. 18, the new facility will be demonstrating some flexibility by hosting three events in the same day.

"The event center provides the perfect location for our dealer kick-off meeting," says Steve Phillips, with Sands of Iowa, who is planning one of the meetings on that busy first day. "The event center rooms can be configured to accommodate different group sizes and assure privacy."

Another use for the event center that has generated a deal of interest is wedding receptions. It will be the site of its first wedding event on Nov. 28 with reservations being booked well into 2005.

A public New Years Eve party is being planned, sponsored by KICD. A Taste of Home Cooking Show is another event that KICD will sponsor at the event center on Feb. 24, 2004.

The Northwest Iowa Home Show, presented by the Jackson Expo Group, is set for Jan. 16-18, 2004 at the event center. The three day home show will have over 100 exhibits and special seminars. The Jackson group sponsors five regional home shows nationwide.

"The high quality of the Clay County Regional Event Center makes an attractive location for our show," remarks Bill Jackson, who is organizing the event. "This is the type of facility that will draw many associations to hold their regional events in Spencer and benefit northwest Iowa."

Additionally, the Clay County Regional Events Center, will offer event-ticketing services through Ticketmaster. Compass Facility Management of Ames manages the center.
