Kuehl & Payer, Ltd. recently announced the purchase, effective Jan. 1, 2001, of Sac City Surveying and Mapping of Sac City. Kuehl & Payer, Ltd. is an engineering consulting firm with offices in Storm Lake and Algona. The firm provides consulting engineering services in the civil and agricultural engineering and surveying areas to cities, counties and industries.

Sac City Surveying and Mapping, currently owned by Bud Vote, provides services in the drainage engineering and surveying areas. Kuehl & Payer, Ltd. will continue to maintain the Sac City Surveying and Mapping office in Sac City. Bud Vote intends to continue as an employee of the firm with the goal of retiring in the near future. According to Vote, "The sale of Sac City Surveying and Mapping is intended to insure the continued professional service to the many fine clients that we have had the privilege to serve over the years. We have worked with Kuehl & Payer, Ltd. on many projects and feel that they will serve the needs of those who have been loyal to us."

Kuehl & Payer, Ltd was founded in 1983 by Bob Payer and Neal Kuehl and has grown to a firm of 32, including engineers, surveyors, technicians and office personnel. The firm purchased Chuck's Surveying and Mapping of Storm Lake in 1988 and merged with Etler Engineering Co. that same year.

Typical projects designed by Kuehl & Payer, Ltd. in the area include swimming pools in Pocahontas, Spencer and Mapleton; street, recreational trails, water and sewer and other infrastructure projects in Storm Lake, Spirit Lake, Spencer, Odebolt, Lake View, Ida Grove, Laurens and Cherokee, rural drainage projects in Pocahontas, Buena Vista and Monona Counties and surveying projects throughout the area. The aquatic center complex currently under construction in Sac City was designed by Kuehl & Payer, Ltd.

Neal Kuehl, President of Kuehl & Payer, Ltd., indicated that the purchase of Sac City Surveying and Mapping brings back together another piece of the organization that once was Otto Engineering Company.

"We look forward to being able to continue the service to the area that Bud served the past 20 years and hope that we might use the Sac City office to further develop engineering and surveying services in the surrounding area. We welcome Bud and his staff to the Kuehl & Payer family."
