City launches disaster mitigation plan
The Storm Lake City Council authorized Northwest Iowa Planning and Development Commission (NWIPDC) to proceed administer a grant for a hazard mitigation plan for the city.
Having a hazard mitigation plan in place will allow the city to receive an additional 10 percent in disaster relief if a Presidential-declared disaster occurs.
The Iowa Emergency Management Division is providing NWIPDC $4,000 to assist the city with the hazard mitigation plan. That includes $3,000 from a grant, $500 cash match from the city and a $500 in-kind match from the city.
A committee has been established to work on the plan, which will account for the in-kind match. Members are Mike Jones, Pat Kelly, Jim Winterton, Mark Prosser and John Call, new city administrator.
Also, the city council voted to adopt the 1999 National Electric Code, which updates the 1996 edition of the code.
