It's going to look a lot like Christmas in Alta on Saturday, Nov. 8, as the Alta Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Holiday Open House.
Many local merchants will open their doors to the public and various community organizations will be participating in the event.
The annual community craft fair and bazaar will highlight the event, which will be held at the Alta High School this year. The school is located five blocks south on Main Street.
The event runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and will feature a wide variety of items from over 40 vendors. Food will be available from the VFW Auxilary.
"We will have a large assortment and a variety of items, so you can start your Christmas shopping early," Chamber member Janet Meyer said. From 9 a.m.-11 a.m. the Maple Valley Motivators 4-H Club will hold their annual cookie walk in the Alta High School. Let the club do your Christmas baking for you! Those interested can fill a sack or your own container with goodies.
The Alta Quaquicentennial Committee will also be selling the items it has remaining from this summer's celebration. Items include popcorn, belt buckles, frisbees, spoons, t-shirts, coins and a few crocks and pitchers.
The Garden Gate, at 103 and 107 Main Street, will be open for "Believe in the Miracle of Christmas." A preview will be held on Friday, Nov. 7 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The open house on Saturday will be from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Refreshments, door prizes and specials will be offered.
Melander's TV, Appliance and Furniture at 110 Main will be open and will feature a special surprise for children - Santa Claus will be coming to Melander's from 1-3 p.m.
Peterson Jewelry at 116 Main Street will be open for business and will be offering a 20 percent off special on many of their items including watches, clocks, crystal, diamonds, 14 karat gold jewelry, figurines, collectibles and jewelry boxes.
Alta Furniture Mart, Appliances & More Store, 117 Main, will be open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The store features a variety of quality used furniture and appliances and also a selection of new furniture at affordable prices. Refreshments will be served during the open house.
The Quilt Shoppe will offer handmade gifts, home decor and holiday items by area crafters. All holiday books, patterns and fabric will be 25 percent off. Special orders for Christmas can also be taken at that time. Also be sure to vote for your favorite in the doll quilt contest. Door prizes and refreshments will be available, 206 Main Street.
The Alta First Presbyterian Church will hold a salad bar luncheon from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on the day of the open house. The church, at 317 Main, is handicap accessible. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2.50 for children 5-12.
NuAttitude owner/stylist Debbie Allen will have her shop open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at 518 Lake, NuAttitude is a hair and tanning salon and offers skin care and waxing as well. The day of the open house, sign up to win free makeup application. Door prizes and refreshments will be available and those interested can see charms and bracelets from 3-5 p.m.
