District auditions for the 277-piece All-State band, 190-piece orchestra and 600-piece voice were held Saturday, Oct. 25 at Storm Lake, Hampton, Oelwein, Atlantic, Indianola and Washington. Approximately 17 percent of the students who audition are selected for membership in the All-State ensembles. Gaining membership is one of the highest individual honors available to Iowa high school musicians.
All-State participants will rehearse in Ames on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21-22 at the Festival Concert will be presented to the public at 7:30 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum, Iowa State University, Ames, on Saturday, evening, Nov. 22. Ticket information is available from any of the high school music directors.
SLHS students that should be recognized for their efforts even though they were not seleted are Heidi Germann, Eric Grundmeier, Jessica Siefer, Katelyn Croker, Samantha Evans, Joni Sievers, Dustin Smith, Alex Raveling, Bobbi Meyer, Joe Keil, Patrick Kelley, Collin Taphorn, Juvenal Soria, Tiffaney Faruto, Heather Warner, Tony Bedel, Tessa Winterton and Katy Jacobson.
Great appreciation is also felt for all students and adults that helped run the festival auditions in Storm Lake. A great number of favorable comments were received from participating schools and even the judges were very pleased.
