SPENCER - Four teenagers have been arrested for a string of burglaries in this northwest Iowa community.
One of the boys, Ryan Daniel Stone, 16, of Spencer, faces 11 counts of third-degree burglary and one count of attempted burglary.
He and another boy, Craig Russell Clopton, 16, were arrested Wednesday after police responded to a burglary at a home.
Clopton was arrested on one count of third-degree burglary and released to a parent.
The investigation also led to the arrest of two other teenagers.
Caleb Dean Brewer and Lucas Allen Krieg, both 17, each were charged with two counts of third-degree burglary.
Stone, Brewer and Krieg were being held in the juvenile detention center in Cherokee.
The charges stem from a series of burglaries that began in mid-September, police said.
"We had long suspected that the persons perpetrating these crimes were high school age," police Officer Mike Wilson said. "With the help of high school administrators, students and officers, we were beginning to develop a focus of suspects, but had more work to prove it."
He said a call from a concerned citizen that resulted in the arrests of Stone and Clopton was key that "blew this thing wide open."
The investigation was continuing and more arrests were possible, police said.
