Thursday, November 2, 2000

HOLSTEIN - Kris Beyer charted 10 kills and Stacy Friedrichsen tallied 23 set assists as Galva-Holstein moved within one match from the Iowa State Volleyball Tournament with a 15-4, 15-1, 15-9 victory over Southern Calhoun of Lake City in a Class 1A regional semifinal match on Monday night at Holstein.

Galva-Holstein, now 34-2-2 overall, will face Council Bluffs St. Albert (25-10-2) in a regional final match tonight in Sloan. The winner advances to the state tournament in Cedar Rapids.

"We played with a lot of energy," Galva-Holstein coach Scott Mitchell said. "We played very good defense and kept the ball alive. We did a good job at the net slowing down their offense. We showed some composure in the third game, coming back from a 7-0 deficit."

Taneal Jepsen and Darci Vohs each had eight kills apiece for the Pirates. Jepsen and Shelley Cronin added five ace serves apiece.

Beyer charted seven digs, Jepsen six, and Friedrichsen, Cronin and Vohs contributed five apiece.
