The Witter Gallery will be hosting a special exhibition now through Nov. 30, entitled, "Earth, Sky and Something More: Watercolors by Richard Leet," sponsored by Benchmark Woodworks, Inc. of Storm Lake.
Leet is a well-known regional artist who has been selected to participate in events and exhibitions at the Witter Gallery in the past. His work has also frequently been selected to appear in the Iowa Watercolor Society Traveling Exhibition.
Leet uses watercolors to interpret the Midwestern landscape in a slightly impressionistic style. His paintings show his appreciation for and curiosity about life and nature. A reception of the artist will be held tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Leet will give a short talk and slide presentation for members of the community to meet an exceptional Iowa artist.
Leet has a Master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and has extensive experience as a painter and art teacher. In addition, he has served as the founding and current director of the Charles H. MacNider Museum in Mason City. He has had his artwork selected for more than sixty-one person shows around the country and has won dozens of awards. His artwork has been included in the permanent art collections of museums, galleries and corporations from Minnesota to Texas.
One of his paintings has even gone to the city of Wenchou, China as a gift from the people of Mason City.
The Witter Gallery is open to the public Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 1:30 to 4 p.m.; Thursdays from 1:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to noon. Special arrangements can be made for group tours or classes. For more information about this exhibit or any Witter Gallery event, please call 712-732-3400.
