Update from the Alta Police Department.
On Oct. 16, Thomas Edward Ptack, 18, of Alta, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance at the intersection of 1st and Main Street. He was processed and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and was later released pending a court appearance.
On Oct. 17, a 14 year old juvenile from Alta was arrested for the vandalism of several buildings. Damages are estimated at over $3,100 to private and city property. The 14 year old is accused of spray painting graffiti on these buildings. His charges and paperwork have been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Services. The 14 year old juvenile was placed in the Cherokee Youth Emergency Services Center and later released to the custody of his parents.
On Oct. 24, Thomas Richard Brader of Cherokee was traveling westbound on Highway 7 when he lost control of his AT&T utility truck and collided with a parked combine and other farm equipment. During the investigation, the officers determined Brader lost control of his vehicle as a result of a mild seizure. He was transported to Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee where he was treated and released.
Alta Implement of Alta reported their equipment sustained over $45,000 damage. The investigation is continuing and the Alta Police Department submitted a request for reexamination of Brader through the Iowa Department of Public Safety. Presently, no charges have been filed.
On Oct. 30, Mary Teresa Zangerle, 37, of Denison, was arrested for Theft in the 4th degree after taking $250 while visiting her boyfriend at 125 Benson Street. Zangerle admitted to taking the money and spending it on clothing and other personal items. She was arrested and processed into the Buena Vista County Jail for Theft in the 4th degree, a serious misdemeanor. She was later released pending a court appearance.
