Forty Iowans from across the state will be gathering in Storm Lake at Buena Vista University on October 9, 10 and 11 for the opening session of Leadership Iowa.
The Leadership Iowa program is sponsored by the Iowa Association of Business and Industry Foundation. Leadership Iowa serves as an issues awareness program to develop, educate and motivate future leaders of Iowa.
Forty leaders from across Iowa including Juli Kwikkel with the Storm Lake Community Schools, were selected this year based on exhibited leadership skills, community involvement and commitment to the issues impacting Iowa.
Each Leadership Iowa class represents a diverse mix of individuals representing business, education, government, non-profit and community-based organizations.
The Leadership Iowa class meets once a month and travels throughout the state from October through June, hosted by various communities.
Each session focuses on a single topic impacting Iowa, and features interaction with subject matter experts, small group activities and leadership development.
"Each year Leadership Iowa selects dynamic individuals who seek not only to know Iowa better, but also to serve the state and their community in positions of responsibility," says Kay Neumann-Thomas, Interim Executive Director.
While in Storm Lake, the Leadership Iowa class will be conducting sessions on the Buena Vista University campus.
BVU President Fred Moore will welcome the 2003-2004 Leadership Iowa Class at the opening session at 1 pm on Thursday, Oct. 9.
On Friday afternoon, the class will take a bus tour of Storm Lake and the wind farm conducted by Marilyn Monson, managing director of the Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce.
Friday evening, the class will have dinner with members of the Buena Vista University Board of Trustees.
