Southern Calhoun snaps LM-ACT win streak; G-H learns playoff opponent

LAKE CITY - Wesley Beschorner threw three touchdown passes and Ryan Kock ran for two scores to help power No. 2-ranked Southern Calhoun to a 58-12 victory over LM-ACT in a Class 1A district game last Friday night.

The loss snapped LM-ACT's five-game winning streak. The Raiders finished the season 5-4.

Beschorner threw TD passes of 33, 22 and 11 yards. Jeremy Gutshall caught two of them and Eric Snyder one.

Kock ran for touchdowns of 1 and 17 yards, while Snyder added a 19-yard run. Dave Higgins scored on a 24-yard run for the Mustangs, while Robyn Anders had a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown.

LM-ACT scored its touchdowns on a 53-yard pass from Jason Brechler to Josh Wilkening and a 16-yard pass from Barry Hakes to Jesse Schmidt.

LM-ACT was held to just 42 yards rushing on 23 carries. Jake Heuton had 24 yards. Southern Calhoun rushed for 414 yards.

Hakes completed 12 of 25 passes for 125 yards. Brechler caught four passes for 44 yards, while Wilkening had two catches for 63 yards.

Dan Buske had 23 tackles to lead LM-ACT on defense. Caleb Garberding had and Schmidt and Brian Aronson 10 apiece.

Galva-Holstein to meet IKM (Manilla) in playoffs

Galva-Holstein learned its playoff fate as it will meet IKM (Manilla) in a Class A state first-round game Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in Holstein.

The Pirates won the District 1 title and are 7-2 overall. IKM was the District 10 runner-up, losing only to No. 1-ranked Manning this season.
