Galva-Holstein clinches playoff berth with 50-0 win

Tuesday, October 31, 2000

KINGSLEY - Scott Breyfogle rushed for 172 yards and four touchdowns, and Matt Nobles rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown as Galva-Holstein won the Class A District 1 title and clinched a playoff berth in rather anticlimatic fashion with a 50-0 win over Kingsley-Pierson Friday at Kingsley.

Galva-Holstein scored two touchdowns in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead. The Pirates then scored five touchdowns in the second quarter in taking a 50-0 lead with 1:44 left to play in the first half.

All seven of the Pirates' touchdowns were of the rushing variety.

The 50-point rule cannot take effect until the first half of play is completed.

Galva-Holstein, now 7-1 in the district and 7-2 overall, will play in the Class A state quarterfinals next Wednesday night.
