BVU students give Santa's Castle public relations a needed facelift

Tuesday, October 31, 2000

Buena Vista University students are working on a campaign for Santa's Castle. Tara Truitt, Melanie Peterson, Kari Carr, Alison Sawyer and Meredith Steen are preparing for the upcoming opening of Santa's Castle on Nov. 23.

The students researched Santa's Castle and met with Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce Director Melanie Miller. Public relations campaign themes were discussed. After a few weeks of analyzing this information, the students presented their campaign plans book to Miller. They chose the theme, "Bringing Families Together," and hope this promotes tradition in the community and its families.

"Being involved with a great organization is exciting. I get to put my public relations skills to work and be a part of a team that is going to make the best campaign for Santa's Castle this fall," Meredith Steen, senior marketing major said. Senior marketing major Tara Truitt agreed, "We have put a lot of time and hard work into planning this campaign. We hope to see the same excitement this year from the visitors and their families."

The community will start seeing the Buena Vista University students' ideas roll into motion as early as Nov. 1.

The Storm Lake Chamber of Commerce has sponsored Santa's Castle since 1962. The castle is open from Thanksgiving Day until Christmas Eve.
