The dreams of one Storm Lake couple came true last week when a four-month old baby boy entered their lives. Instead of being delivered by a stork, though, he arrived after a 23-hour flight from Korea.
Cale Matthew Murray is the first son of John and Edean Murray. The Murrays adopted Cale, who arrived in the U.S. last Friday. The Murrays are relieved and thrilled after starting the adoption process in August last year.
The Murrays used the adoption agency Holt International, based in Oregon. The agency has been operating for 40 years, having started after the Korean War to adopt "G.I. Babies" who were left behind by Americans in Korea.
Edean said she was shocked when they got a call on Thursday of last week saying Cale would be on his way, arriving in Des Moines on Friday.
"I was very excited," she said, adding that she spent all of that day calling family. She said John was like a "deer in headlights."
"We were very nervous. It's our first child, and how do you go about parenting?" she said. "We were nervous until we saw Cale, then it was like he was our son and it was meant to be."
