Storm Lake Police were called to the Storm Lake High School Thursday on a report of a disruptive women who later reportedly kicked, bit and spit on the officers.
Police determined a female had entered the school office and asked to go into the German class. When office staff determined the woman had no legal right to enter the class, they asked her to leave. School administrators observed the woman and noticed she was acting in a strange manner and notified the police.
Officers again asked the woman to leave the building, but she became enraged and violent, according to a police statement. Police forcibly removed the woman from the building, fighting the entire time. After being placed in the police vehicle, she attempted to kick out the back window of the car and also kicked, bit and spit on the responding officers.
The woman, identified as Tasha Chavez, 20, of Alta, was transported to the Storm Lake Police Station. Upon arrival at the station, she continued to be violent and was retrained.
A Buena Vista County Mental Health official responded to the police station and a court order was issued, placing Chavez into a mental health facility for an evaluation.
Criminal charges have been filed on Chavez, charging her with three counts of Assaulting a Police Officer, Interference With Official Acts and Criminal Trespass. Upon being returned to the Buena Vista County Jail, Chavez will be held on $6,500 bond.
No injuries were reported.
