Day and evening Spanish short courses being offered at ICCC

Both day and evening Conversational Beginning Spanish Courses will be starting this fall at ICCC Storm Lake.

The evening class will be held for seven consecutive Monday evenings starting Sept. 29 from 6-8 p.m. The day class will be held for seven consecutive Friday mornings from 9-11 a.m. starting Friday, Oct. 3.

Jim Osegaro, Storm Lake, will be the instructor for both short courses. The course fee is $70.

Wilderness first aid course offered

A 16-hour First Aid Course for Remote and Wilderness Areas will be offered Oct. 4 and 5 by Iowa State University Extension 4-H Youth Development and the National Safety Council.

The course, required by the American Camping Association for staff and volunteers leading youth on trips into remote areas, will cover a wide variety of topics including victim assessment and care, head and facial injuries, evacuation procedures, stings, bites and dressings and bandages.

Rick Ruble, an emergency medical technician who is a health care provider for the American Heart Association and an American Red Cross first aid and CPR instructor, will lead the course.

The training session runs from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 4 and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 5. The $50 registration fee, due Sept. 30, includes a training manual and snacks. The training session will be at the new Extension 4-H building on the corner of Stange and 13th Streets on the ISU campus.
