Ag corporation gives program $20,000 boost
The Storm Lake Community Schools' Tornado Learning Club (TLC) program recently received a huge boost as the result of a $20,000 grant from The Monsanto Fund.
The Monsanto Fund was established in the mid-1960s as the philanthropic arm of the Monsanto Company. The fund is committed to meaningful charitable giving, especially in the communities where their employees live and work.
This commitment extends to issues surrounding agricultural safety and productivity, preservation of the environment, science education and enhancing the quality of life in local communities by support of the arts, human services and other areas of value to their employees.
This marks the first time in three tries that the TLC program has been awarded a grant from the Monsanto Fund. This is the third time in five years that Monsanto has provided funding for programs in Storm Lake.
In the past they have given money to the Storm Lake Fire Department and the Storm Lake Baseball Association.
TLC coordinator Donna Queen says that without this money, the TLC program would be in dire straights.
'The program didn't qualify for another state grant. We've made a lot of cuts already," she said. "We absolutely need this money to run our program."
