Famed Celtic dance troupe visits

Tuesday, September 16, 2003

Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance - the international sensation that has broken box office records in more than 30 countries - is returning to North America.

It will play The Orpheum Theatre in Sioux City for one performance only, Thursday, October 30, at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the performances, which range in price from $31 to $51 go on sale Saturday, and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster locations, online at ticketmaster.com or by calling 712-252-3434.

Audiences across the United States, Canada and Mexico will have a chance to experience the extravaganza that has helped catapult Irish dancing into the global spotlight and created a new wave of Celtic dance mania. In less than five years, the show has brought a staggering 50 million people worldwide to their feet at sold out theaters, arenas and stadiums.

Michael Flatley, who originated the role of the Lord, serves as the artistic director and continues to oversee all aspects of the production. The first American to win the All-World Championship in Irish Dance, Flatley opened the show in Dublin in 1996. "Our goal is to take the audience on a wondrous adventure that will ignite their minds and souls," said Flatley. "We've combined traditional and modem forms of dance to create a high octane blend with soulful beats and feet that move too fast to comprehend." Flatley is listed by The Guinness Book of World Records for having "the world's fastest feet" - 35 taps per second.

The action is played out on a grand scale with colorful costumes, state-of-art staging, lighting and pyrotechnics.
