German Festival comes to Hanover with a vast array of traditional foods

Tuesday, September 16, 2003

If you like good German food, then Hanover is the place to be on Saturday, September 27.

Every fall with the exception of 2001 when construction was underway on the Church's addition, the rural Alta congregation of St John Lutheran have hosted a German Feast. This year the 12 annual German Feast will be held on September 27.

The basement fellowship hall where the meal is served is fully handicap accessible with a drive up drop-off area and full-sized elevator. The addition also includes a multipurpose meeting room and handicapped restrooms on the main floor as well as two classrooms in the lower level.

Be sure to bring your appetite for the homemade bounty including sauerkraut and brats, sauerbraten, German potato salad, as well as the congregation's garden produce including beet pickles, corn, cucumbers, tomatoes and applesauce. The meal is served family style accompanied by home-baked breads, summer sausage and cheese and a delicious apple cake for dessert.

In the past, close to 500 people have enjoyed the feast each year, so please help the committee plan by calling in your reservation for a 5 p.m., 6:15, or 7:15 meal. Adults are $8, children 5-12 $2 and preschools eat free! Contact numbers are 284-1230, 434-5630 and 282-4459.

The proceeds are divided equally between this year's chosen projects. They include Concordia Lutheran School in Storm Lake, LFS the Lord's Cupboard in Alta, and the St John addition.
