Baxter inducted into Hall of Fame

Friday, October 27, 2000

The Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award is given in recognition of years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling.

"I feel very honored to have been selected for this outstanding award," Baxter said. "It's the fine young men I have been fortunate to have coached for over the past 30 years who have earned this award for me. I appreciate their hard work, dedication and sacrifices over the years."

Baxter was one of four people to be inducted at the Iowa High School Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association annual convention, which was held in Des Moines. Joining Baxter were Don Miller of Fort Dodge, Marv Reiland of Iowa City West and Russ Smith of Waterloo.

"I couldn't have found a better coach to have wrestled for," former Buena Vista wrestler Sevond Cole said. "He really cares so much about his wrestlers and their lives outside of wrestling, and that's hard to find these days."
