Sugar Bowl opens postal services

Thursday, September 4, 2003

Buying stamps and shipping packages gets a little easier for Storm Lake-area residents since the Sugar Bowl Gift Store, Storm Lake's Hallmark store, began offering customers all the services of the local post office last Tuesday.

Sugar Bowl co-owner Mike Kohler said that his store has joined other Hallmark Gold Crown stores that have formed a partenership with the U.S. Postal Service to offer their customers this additional service for their customers.

"During our regular business hours we will offer customers everything the post offices offers," Kohler said. "Not to mention the ability to mail gifts and cards they may purchase at The Sugar Bowl. We hope we can take one step out of our customers errand run with this service."

Kohler, who owns the store with his wife Molly Wilson, said that customers can rely on insured, certified, priority mail and delivery confirmation of the their items. The service includes a regular afternoon pickup.

"We have a package scale and have the ability to print postage," he said. "We have always offered free gift wrapping and now we can mail that package, too."

Kohler said that the only expense for shipping besides postage is supplies used to package the gift.

"We hope this service will continue to build traffic in our store by adding this additional service for our customers," Kohler said.

The Sugar Bowl, located at 516 Lake Ave., is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Kohler said that beginning the first Sunday in October (Oct. 2) the store will be open noon to 4 p.m.
