Funeral services for Clifford E. Carlson, 88, of Aurelia, will be Thursday, July 24, 2014, at 10:30 A.M., at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Cherokee, with Military Honors by the L. A. Wescott Post # 2253 of the VFW in Cherokee. There will be no visitation. Irene Stauter, age 96 of Fonda, Iowa passed away on July 16, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, July 19, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Catholic Cemetery. SL schools able to move children out of ELL classes

Storm Lake Community Schools has one of the largest English Language Learners programs in the state. However after this year the number of ELL children will decrease by about 10 percent. "We have had over 600 kids in the ELL program the last three years," Superintendent of Storm Lake Schools Carl Turner said at the July meeting of the School Board. "The way that the kids exit the ELL program is through taking the ELDA test."...
