A Newell man is accused of threatening his own pregnant sister by holding a knife to her belly, assaulting his brother in law, and then turning the weapon on himself and stabbing himself twice. On Saturday night shortly before 11:30 p.m., Newell Police were called to an address in the 300 block of North Fulton for an attempted suicide. A second call then came in reporting that an angry individual had a knife and was threatening to harm others... -

Discussions on establishing a YMCA in Storm Lake have been on hold since June, waiting for a response from the Spencer YMCA. To be approved by the YMCA parent organization, a Storm Lake program would have to be a branch of the existing Spencer Y.
