Three mayor races as election slates shape up

Ballots are set for local municipal elections to be held November 3. There will be a race for mayor in three communities - Lakeside, Storm Lake and Sioux Rapids. One of the smallest area towns, Truesdale, has produced the busiest field of candidates with eight running for city council seats.

Genealogical Society requests spot in South School

Another request has come in for space in the vacated South School. Buena Vista County Genealogical Society has asked the Storm Lake School Board to consider providing their group space to relocate in one of the rooms at South. The society, formed in 1986, currently has members from across the United States.

The 131st Iowa Fireman's Association Convention was held this year Sept. 9 -- 13 in Dyersville. The Storm Lake Fire Department sent 13 firefighters to compete in the 2009 State Convention Drill Competition. -

The Storm Lake High School Kreative Kitchen is open for the first semester. The Kitchen is under the management of instructor Becky Stille; the cooks are made up of students from the creative foods class.

Support SLHS music students

The Storm Lake High School Music Department will represent the community and school in Florida April 5-11. Fundraising events are still going on to help students with the expenses. The band, choir and orchestra will be performing at Disney Fest, held in Disney World.
