SL Guard soldiers coming home from Kosovo July 9-11 (06/26/08)
After a year away, the 43 Storm Lake area soldiers serving in Kosovo are about to come home. Iowa National Guard officials announced this week that the soldiers will return in a window from July 9 to 11. Soldiers will be allowed to return to the unit closest to their home, so about 29 are expected to arrive at the Storm Lake armory...

BV County to hire appraiser for County Care (06/26/08)
BV County is looking at possibly selling the Spectra County Care Facility building, which was County run up until 1986. It was then privatised when Spectra took over the mental healthcare. The County is questioning the current arrangement with questions of whether or not they should remain the landlords or if it should be sold and completely privatised. An early morning fire gutted a popular Lakes area restaurant this week, and damage estimates may now reach $1 million. The Canadian owned Meridian Manufacturing plant of Storm Lake hosted about 70 to 80 dealers, Monday at their plant. Meridian employees had the goal of promoting the dealers who came from as far away as Ontario and Texas.
