Alta's Kim Piercy and a few hundred students have helped build a better Alta through the construction of 16 new homes over a 17-year-period. Piercy has been the instructor for the building and trades League of Schools program through Iowa Central Community College. The new Iowa mandatory life jacket for youth law went into effect May 10, reminds Buena Vista County Recorder Shari O'Bannon, and is already being enforced by law enforcement.
