It takes a lot to make a soldier cry. Combat won't do it. The uncertaintly of a mission halfway around the world is seemingly taken in stride. But those teddy bears will get a guy... Friday evening, a crowd of hundreds packed the Storm Lake Armory to capacity to send off 41 more members of the National Guard unit for a likely year of service in a United Nations peacekeeping mission in volatile Kosovo, packing flags, family tee-shirts emblazoned with "Supporting Our Troops" in proud gold lettering, and a thunderous round of applause to offer the soldiers standing at attention.. ...

You have to look for Linn Grove to find it. But once people do discover it, it seems, they don't care to leave. Consider the recent U.S. Census estimates - Linn Grove is considered the second-fastest growing city in Buena Vista County. Granted, when you are only 200 people and change, a couple of new bodies a decade can boost your Census profile. But Linn Grove has more going for it than numbers, residents reflect...

Schroeder's View (07/23/07)
Raising kids can sometimes get very expensive...especially these days. I couldn't imagine supporting a large family again. Trying to find some way of entertaining the girls when they were younger was a challenge because we didn't have the funds to take elaborate vacations. A trip to Grandma and Grandpa Woltman's was about the extent of our vacations. And they lived in Cherokee and at some point moved to Alta!...
Letter from the Editor (07/23/07)
Oh my God... you awake from a tired funk with a start, in a cold sweat. The kids - where are the kids... You intended to just shut your eyes for a moment... Or, you realize with a jolt in a big store or a crowded place, while you were concentrating on what you were there to do for just a moment, your young child must have slipped away.
