Revamped Arts Council enthused as culture 'hub' (01/23/03)
With new leadership and fresh enthusiasm, the Storm Lake Arts Council is planning to build on the community's colorful cultural assets. In a January election, Sherise Gibson was narrowly selected as the new president of the council. Following several resignations, new members have filled the void on the board of directors. Some 30 people attended a social event launching the new council last week, and many have stepped forward to be part of the effort...

Blaze destroys Storm Lake Home (01/23/03)
A mother and her three children are left without a home after a fire destroyed their mobile home located in the W. 9th Street trailer park. Rosalia Valtierra and her three children, ages 13, 9 and 6, have been temporarily moved into a local motel pending further arrangements, according to Storm Lake Fire Chief Mike Jones.
