New watercraft law takes effect (06/27/02)
After years of debate, law enforcement officers will get a new set of laws to use in enforcing water safety for operators of "Jet Ski" style personal watercraft vehicles. The laws won't hurt, Buena Vista County Sheriff Chuck Eddy said this week, but they don't fully address the need for safety training or how rural departments will find the manpower to adequately patrol Iowa waters...

School board election time will soon be here, and 2002 will be a busy year, as three spots on the five-member board will be open for election. The three-year terms of Richard Marshall and Rick Glienke will both expire, while Dan Sliefert will resign from the board effective Aug. 31 with one year remaining on his term. Glienke has already announced he will not seek reelection, while Marshall has not yet announced whether he will seek another term on the board...

Community Services Center work under way (06/27/02)
The new center is located at 1723 W. Milwaukee St. in Storm Lake and was formally the Concordia Lutheran School. Two years ago, FHC entered into a unique agreement with Concordia to purchase the building; that agreement is now complete.
