Eagle Scout project cleans up little lake trail (09/21/00)
Staton, 17, is a member of Troop 104 of the Thundercloud Council. He is a senior at Storm Lake High School. Staton has been involved in Scouting since the first grade. The work on his Eagle project began earlier in the summer. He decided on cleaning up the Little Storm Lake trail because of its recreational and educational use...

~Morgan Davis helped Kennedy Fellows during a painting activity at the Alta After School Program this week. The Program, which has 32 students enrolled runs Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the basement of the Roxy Theatre.
Alta police make arrest in Depot burglary (09/21/00)
Amanda Kirchner of Storm Lake was arrested for Aiding and Abetting a Burglary 3rd Degree. Burglary in the 3rd Degree is a Class D Felony. The Burglary was reported by Bob and Karen Pender of Alta. They reported that someone had broken into their business, and had taken numerous cases of beer. A door and fence were damaged in the process...
Duitsman brothers to perform at Windfest (09/21/00)
The two brothers age 8 1/2 and 11 1/2 will entertain those attending the Windfest celebration in Alta this weekend. They will perform at 12:45 and plan to sing only their best songs. M-31 resurfacing agreement (09/21/00)
The agreement will be for the county to improve approximately a one-mile stretch of M-31, south of the railroad tracks and to C-49. Improvements include curb replacement and resurfacing. The total costs of the project is about $215,000, with federal funding covering about $129,000 of that. The remaining portion will be split between the city and the county...

Jury selection began Tuesday at the Buena Vista County Courthouse, but it never was completed. When the potential jurors assembled after lunch, Judge Joe Straub told them a settlement had been reached and that the jurors were dismissed. Plaintiffs in the case included the estates of Tom Archer and Larry Walsh, the two Albert City firefighters killed in the blast, as well as six other injured firefighters...

Homecoming festivities begin Monday (09/21/00)
Monday features 'autograph day.' Students are asked to wear an old T-shirt and bring a black permanent marker to sign the other shirts. Class competitions begin with downtown window paintings, floats and decorating the gym lobby at the high school. Students will also be decorating 4 x 8 pieces of plywood to be used for the pep rally and at the football field.
