In remembrance of 9/11: The Heroes Parade

Thursday, September 13, 2018

In remembrance of the September 11, 2001 attacks, Storm Lake's Elementary and Middle Schools staged a parade Tuesday afternoon to honor those who serve to protect the public. Local heroes like police officers and firefighters put tangible faces to the importance of public safety. "We talk to them about what happened, about the heroes that helped people out [on 9/11] and what they sacrified," said Elementary Principal Barb Lange, explaining how the schools educate students on a turning point for the Unites States that happened before they were born. Usually, officers and fire fighters meet students in the hallways. "This year, we wanted to go bigger," Lange said. Storm Lake Police, fire fighters, Buena Vista County Sherif's officers, medical center staff, and Iowa National guard soldiers were honored. Pilot photos by Elijah Decious
