Welcome Home, Tornadoes

A crowd was on hand waiting nearly an hour to welcome the State runner-up Storm Lake soccer team home Saturday night. The bus cruised into the high school plaza playing its horn, with players hanging out the windows greeting their fans. Coach Ben Schekirke handed out commemorative soccer balls to the players, who collected signatures on them from teammates. Many of the fans had players autograph their t-shirts. The runner-up trophy - the second in three years, made its way to the school showcase. "This was an amazing experience - the competition, the atmosphere at State. It seemed like everybody was there. It's something I never will forget," player Efrain Gonzales said. / Pilot photos by Dana Larsen
