In part 1 of my series, I talked about the fuel that's necessary to get the most production out of our bodies, which directly affects our mental clarity and overall wellness. I would like to kick off part 2 with the building blocks needed to truly make changes in the world each and everyday. Please read this with an open mind, wipe your slate clean with how you've been, and welcome how you could be.
We all know that some of us, genetically, have what most people would say is an advantage in life. This couldn't be farther from the truth. I've found that those who are genetically gifted can be the ones most at risk for never reaching their full potential. Take the professional athlete who was given genetic abilities to perform at the highest levels with little to no effort. Did they truly excel in their sport the way their gifts were intended? How about a 14 year-old who graduates from Harvard without ever truly being tested intellectually. This is where we start.
Something I'm always trying to perfect and broaden, is my own personal skill set. What's different about me, and what are my strengths and weaknesses in life. This is fundamentally ground zero for being self aware. It's about owning that, and using each day to get better. I've sharpened my focus and skills on becoming the best communicator I can be. I feel personally, it's my calling to change the world, one vision at a time. So, for part 2, I'll touch on how you can acquire the skill set needed to be successful at anything and everything that comes your way.
Emotional intelligence, one of the most powerful and result driven traits you could ever acquire. Most of the abilities deemed necessary for greatness in leaders lies within the realm of emotional intelligence, not technical expertise. This becomes such an important skill because it's a key to navigating environments and exceeding goals. Work on keeping your emotions in check, slow things down, don't just react. So many of us get too busy selling our side of something, rather than listening to see where others are coming from. We're in a time where most of us are waiting to talk next, instead of taking in what others are communicating. If you're right all the time, and think influencing others to your ideas and your ideas only is proper navigation, you're wrong. Simply, talk less, listen more. You will then finally start to develop emotional intelligence.
The art of neutralizing toxic people, this one will change your life once you've mastered it. Some people have no idea how negative they really are. Then, we have the special breed who thrive on creating work and personal mayhem. Think of them as wrecking balls of positive environments. These people will test how far they can get, only to use what they think is charm to win you back over. This can be an endless cycle day in and day out. The result of this is a toxic environment. These folks can bring down an organization or destroy personal relationships in no time at all. It's important for us to identify these people, and eliminate them from our lives. Chances are these people can easily fall into two categories, sociopath or an extreme narcissist. Don't ignore the way they're acting just because you don't want to deal with them. Most of all, it's vital to not let them steal any of your energy. This is what they crave, energy and attention of others. Don't be trapped by these weak minded types. You can eliminate them from your life, or you can evaluate them and set boundaries. You can do it, and you'll feel amazing once these types are no longer in your life.
Confidence: the power to own who you are, and execute task after task on your way to success. Yes, it's really that simple. You're already fueling your body with what it really needs. After some self reflection you've identified your strengths and weaknesses. The skill set you never thought you had, you now have and thrive on sharpening those skills every chance you get. So, that brings us to confidence. When you start becoming a better version of yourself, you're completely aware of the changes you're making in your life and are excited about them. Own that, celebrate that, and have the confidence moving forward that you're only going to get better. Having these skill sets in life, and feeling good about the person that you are, that's a state of mind that will unlock your potential. You will go from having potential, to the status of unlimited potential. This is where the work begins.
