'Honey, I'm home!'

Posted Monday, January 9, 2012, at 2:36 PM

It took me about two years to figure out where it was that we actually belonged. At times I feel like a kid that ventured out into the world just to figure out that I didn't belong in a foreign place, no matter how close I tried to convince myself it was.

For two years I struggled internally over whether or not 35 miles was too far away from where it was that my heart had remained. Should we actually stay where we had established ourselves, or shall we head on home where there are special people that are in need of our assistance? Needless to say, after a few months of soul searching, searching for that place where we would feel at home, we have returned to our roots so to speak.

There are times in all of our lives where we may think that it is greener on the other side, that we need to spread our wings and check out life on the so called other side of the fence. Well for me, it didn't take me long to figure out that I didn't have it all that bad to begin with. After reaching this conclusion, we didn't have to search outside the Alta city limits to find happiness and contentment, it was there all of the time. I just didn't look hard enough I guess.

It took a matter of three weeks of house hunting to find that place that we call our country home in town. We were pretty sure that we wanted pretty much a smaller home, it didn't much matter how many floors, just enough room for an occasional visitor or two. Thank goodness I talked Craig into looking at the house that screamed "buy me, buy me!" every time I looked online at it. At one point in time he had thought that the house was too big, well that was until we looked at it inside and out.

Lo and behold we have an Alta address again, and literally love our new home. The previous owners took very good care of this home. They had called it home for many, many years. In my heart I know that we too will call it home for many many years. You see, we are back home, ready to attend those school functions that we seemed to miss out on because we lived too far away to make those quick trips. We are able to once again host a meal at a whim, run an errand for family members and pop in just to say hi.

To all that think that they too need to move out and check the rest of the world out...go forth, but you too may find out that life wasn't so bad where you were planted to begin with. It's OK - you too can always come home.
