Where have the years gone?

Posted Monday, February 7, 2011, at 4:10 PM

I just love a good birthday party...and what makes it even more enjoyable is when all of the grandchildren are able to attend!

Hard to believe that Maddy Rose turned two already. The years seem to pass by so much more quickly then I remember them to in my early years. Is it an age thing or is the calendar actually spinning out of control? I am hoping that it is the latter because the age excuse scares me a bit.

I can't recall the last time when all 8 little girls were in the same room...and no it isn't because age has affected my memory; well not in this case anyway. There are those cousin favorites, you know the ones that you would rather hang out with, while the others are ignored and at times even picked on by the best buddies; well there was none of that. It was so great to see the older girls all play together, as the younger ones all hung out. Well not to say that an eight month old and a two year old can pal around, but they did bond too!

Girls are funny creatures and after raising four of them, I know far well how mean and spiteful they can be at times. But none of that was evident at this birthday party, they all hung out and played in the pool, hung out as they ate, and then back to the pool. It makes a grandma proud when there are no arguments to settle or whining to listen to because someone was picking on someone. I was so very proud!

The reality is that they are growing up. That in itself saddens me. With the eldest being nine and the youngest at this time eight months, it baffles me a bit. Where did the years go? Just yesterday the first was the baby, and now, youngest baby Morgan is army crawling and standing up as if she is ready to take off and keep up with the older ones. Don't get me wrong, I love bonding with the older girls, now that a real conversation is possible. But then again I love being able to hold the little ones and get those sloppy kisses that the infants so freely share.

Great birthday party, filled with play and laughter and for me, life doesn't get any better than that!
