Second childhood perhaps?

Posted Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 10:09 AM

I have never considered myself much of an outdoors person, but I guess I may have to rethink that.

I amaze myself with the extent of time that I do spend outside and with all of the things that I do while spending time in the fresh air, that would shock those that do know me very well. Its not uncommon to see me walking down the gravel road with a dog on the leash and for some reason no cell phone. I'm a cell kind of person, but for some reason I feel quite comfortable leaving it at home these days. Perhaps I am convinced that Lucy will protect me, if by chance danger happens upon us as we walk.

At any given time I can be found carrying wood back and forth to the shed or standing out in the pouring rain in mud and muck as we locate a cracked pipe in the septic system. Seeing me dirty from head to toe, now that would drop a few jaws on a few family members. I am known as somewhat of a sissy girl or Miss Priss to those that are supposed to love me.

I'm thinking that I may be experiencing a bit of the "going through my second childhood" syndrome. While growing up I was some what of a tomboy, to the extent that it wasn't normal to see me sitting on the porch with a dress on and hair nicely combed. In my younger years I was running through the woods, climbing trees, carting snakes about to scare my mom. I'm not such a fan of the slithery creepy crawlers these days, but aside from that I've adapted to country living.

With the weather finally improving I am sure that I will spend more time in the dirt, digging out themost enormous garden that I will physically be able to plant. That's a lot of weeding - hmmm, I may have to rethink that?

Life as I knew it had changed along with the change in address last fall, but I have never been so positive that this was indeed the best move ever.

Happy Spring to you all... and be sure to get out and enjoy it, nothing better than fresh air in your lungs and a bit of fresh dirt under your nails!
