Wedding adventuresPosted Thursday, June 7, 2012, at 9:45 AM
Attending weddings ranks right up there on my list of favorite things to do.
My own wedding, of course, was the most fun; it was the one and only day I have ever felt like a princess. (I don't have royal blood but I do know I am QUEEN of the house.) I once attended the wedding of a college friend who fell in love with Montana and a man in Montana. The ceremony was on a boat in Glacier National Park. It was lovely being surrounded by mountains. (And I was relieved that I did not experience motion sickness!) My kids nearly stole the show at two different weddings they were in as youngsters. Jordan was a ring bearer at the age of 2 1/2. While it was cute that he was throwing the soft pillow around while standing up front the bride (my niece) was not too keen on it so I had to coax him down from the alter to sit with me and then he wanted to run back and worth between the two spots so I had to take him outside, missing the ceremony myself, until it was time for him to walk back down at the conclusion. My girls were flower girls at the ages of 4 and 5. They were very cute - despite the very fresh chicken pox scars they had. (It was two weeks prior that all four of my kids came done with chicken pox - on the same day.) They seemed to get a little bored with the idea of standing at the front, too, and so began having a "sword" fight with their stemmed flowers they were supposed to be holding very nicely. Today's weddings are those of friends' children; how lovely to see the proud parent faces as they send them off to another chapter in their lives. We attended an outdoor wedding in the mountains of Colorado a few years ago - another beautiful site. The bride, the daughter of my childhood best friend, and groom were just as beautiful as the surroundings. My daughter and I attended an outdoor wedding at Okoboji over the weekend. The bride was the daughter of another childhood friend. The flower girl, the granddaughter of my friend, was ever so careful dropping rose pedals ahead of the bride, making a path of petals on either side of her path. She had to be coaxed a little by family members in the audience to move a little quicker. When the bride made her way through the path of pedals and up to the altar, little Anna went back and picked up every single pedal, telling her grandma later she didn't want them to blow away! Someday I will be the mom of the bride or groom but until then I will enjoy my friends' wedding adventures... I don't feel quite as old as my friends yet not having married kids.
