ZookeeperPosted Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 4:18 PM
I am living in a zoo - and some days, with all these animals, I feel like I'm going crazy.
I have the squirrels who like to raid the cupboards without the "zookeeper" knowing it and horde their favorite things in their rooms so that the other animals can't get to them. (These squirrels come out of hiding especially after grocery shopping day!) I have the turtles who like to go in their shells when there are things bothering them; a perfect place to be when they just don't feel like talking. I have the giraffes which I am often thankful for; they can stretch up and reach things in the high places form me that I can't even think of reaching! I have the tigers. Sometimes they roar at the "zoo keeper" - the zoo keeper has learned to roar, too. I have chimpanzees - one of the most curious of God's lovely creatures. (Those young curious chimpanzees I once had made me nearly go bananas!) Those chimpanzees now are still curious but more so about life and what is out beyond the "zoo". I have cheetahs that have won races on the track and fluffy little cats who would rather catch a nap than a mouse. I have the pigs, sometimes, especially when I have cooked a favorite meal and I have those that sometimes eat no more than a mouse. I have grizzly bears - especially in the mornings when it is time to wake them up. GRRR! (Roll back over.) I have opossums - playing opossum - "Did you say something? I didn't hear you?" I have hyenas - laughing over the silliest things. There are the otters - "I otter do this" - and the beavers that sometimes don't give a dam. There are also the wolves - watching out for each other, through thick and thin, no matter what, we're a pack. If you haven't figured it out, I have compared my family to the animals; different in looks, sharing some of the same characteristics. Truthfully, I have enjoyed running this zoo and being around all these "animals." God made so many wonderful creatures with so many wonderful personalities. * Lorri Glawe is a member of the Pilot-Tribune news staff. Reach the columnist at lglawe@stormlakepilottribune.com |
